About Die Damhuis

This beautifully renovated building was originally a shed on De Melkbosch farm in the 1700's. The water from a fountain nearby used to form a dam next to the shed, hence the name 'Damhuis' (dam house). Where this dam once lay, the bustling Beach Road is now winding.

This restaurant offers seating inside and outside, but it is outside in the courtyard where you want to be, weather permitting. Beautiful, uninterrupted views of the beach and the vast Atlantic greet you as you start your day with one of the delicious breakfasts.

Try a small, medium or large English breakfast, a delicious omelette, a continental breakfast or even a 'slimmer's' breakfast. The dishes are all freshly prepared with lots of care and attention to detail.

Gorgeous tapas can also be enjoyed with a glass or three of wine on a laxzy sunny afternoon.

The menu is quite extensive and some of the starter dishes are mussels steamed in a white wine sauce served with freshly baked bread, tender tubes of calamari and peri peri chicken livers.

For a main, try one any one of the seafood, chicken or meat dishes. From the catch of the day and paprika prawns to a chicken curry and the 'Cock of all Chicken Pies'.

A range of succulent steaks, lamb dishes, proudly South African tripe and bobotie and even a humungous burger option leaves diners spoilt for choice.

The Damhuis combines beautiful views, great food, and a location not easily matched to create a winning recipe.

Very tasty food and an enjoyable atmosphere. There is a nice fireplace inside for the cold winter evenings.

Die Damhuis website states that although they had gone through a number of changes, the historical importance has been preserved for future generations……they have preserved rascism, yes!I called this morning to make a booking for Sunday, only to be told that its full. I compromised as I had been there before and it's my birthday and thought its a relaxing setting for a few of my friends and me and even reduced amount of people yet Steve said no can do, there are only 2 small tables left. When I asked if it can be put together, he said no – its in 2 different areas.Someone called restaurant...

Went there for Sunday Lunch with family of three, ordered Peri Peri Chicken Livers as a starter. There was no peri-peri in the meal nor a sauce to speak about and the content tasted as if it came out of a burnt container not to mention the lack of flavour. For mains, I asked the waiter what she recommended, she suggested the Lamb Shank. None of the flavors explained in the menu came through in the meal and the most important thing was that it was bland and tasteless.Should have gone with a deep fried fish parcel instead.

Our family of five looked forward to driving around melkbos and blouberg and finding a place to eat something....walked into damhuis, what a great looking place...saw a whole lot of tables open. But as far as we walked, every open table had a reserrved sign on...the waiter asked somebody at the back if they have an open table (this with at least a dozen open tables, all reserved), no was the answer...how long is the waiting...no sorry, we cant help you at all, the whole day....it was 11 o clock in the morning....so we turned around an leave....passing all the open tables, all reserved, with...
